Review: Disney’s Restaurant Marrakesh

Restaurant Marrakesh signageNestled in the back of the Moroccan pavilion at Epcot’s World Showcase, you’ll find this secluded dining spot. It’s safe to say you’ll encounter some of the most adventurous of eaters here, but I hope some of the more picky palates would venture out of their comfort zones to try the offerings at Restaurant Marrakesh.

Finding the restaurant is just the first part of the adventure that awaits you. You need to wind your way through the foreign bazaar of native Fez hats, jewels and fabrics. Take the time to experience all of the culture that you encounter. Back when the pavilion was created in 1984, King Hassan II of Morocco sent his own personal artists, or maalems, to help Disney Imagineers with construction of the project and to preserve its authenticity.

Review: Kringla Bakeri og Kafe

Kringla Bakeri og Cafe at EpcotOne of the quick snack spots that has always been on my Disney radar is Kringla Bakeri og Kafe at the Norway pavilion in World Showcase at Epcot. However, a visit has always eluded me. So I made it a point to drop in during our last quick visit.

This bakery and small noshing destination is one of two different spots to find food in the Norway pavilion (the other being the table-service character dining experience at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall, which is the perfect place for the little princesses in your life.)

Cooking with the Beatle’s Yellow Submarine

Yellow Submarine metal lunchboxI found these little treasures at one of the shops in the United Kingdom section of Epcot’s World Showcase. So, if you’re a Beatle fan or just know a foodie in love with the Fab Four, check out these items…

“We all live in a yellow submarine…”

One of the gifts you can find in this British treasure trove is an aluminum Yellow Submarine lunchbox that features artwork from the 1969 animated film of the same name.

Beatle Trivia: Yellow Submarine originally appeared on the Beatle’s 1966 album Revolver, which also featured the single Eleanor Rigby.

Review: Disney’s San Angel Inn

Inside San Angel Inn at Epcot's World ShowcaseToday we welcome back my hubby Brett to give us his review of San Angel Inn inside the Mexico pavilion at Epcot.

One of the greatest places to visit at Epcot’s World Showcase is the Mexico pavilion. Compared to the other countries there is so much more to explore. You can take a ride on the Gran Fiesta Tour starring the Three Caballeros, buy goods in the marketplace and for the older folks in your party they can step off to the side and enjoy La Cava del Tequila where they can taste Mexican tequila and learn its history. One of the great treasures that we discovered on our last trip was the San Angel Inn.

The restaurant overlooks the inside pyramid and the boats that are taking the ride through the Fiesta Tour. A major plus is that we were able to get a reservation the day we dined, which as most people know can be a challenge at the restaurants at Disney World. One downfall is that anyone in your party that is hard of sight will have issues with the low lighting. I came in expecting the usual fare of tacos, burritos and enchiladas. What I came to find out is that Disney and their chefs know how to make Mexican food come to life!

Yeah, I Ate That Series: The Chocolate Moose

Tucked away in the Canada pavilion at Walt Disney World’s Epcot theme park is Le Cellier Steakhouse. This primo dining spot is hard to land a reservation at all year.

As you come in from the gardens outside, you’re transported into an old wine cellar decked out in dark woods, stone floors and archways, and minimal lighting.

While the steaks on the menu are aged to perfection (I highly recommend the mushroom filet mignon with mushroom risotto, as well as the Moosehead Beer Cheddar Cheese soup – just be sure to save some of the pretzel breadsticks for dipping), there is one item on the menu that is both fun and tasty.

Chocolate Moose at Le Cellier at EpcotThe Chocolate Moose dessert is chocolate mousse wrapped in toasted chocolate crumbs. Then, it’s decorated with chocolate candies, maple-flavored antlers and a bright red cookie tongue.

Kids and adults both will enjoy this dessert for its creativity and decadence.

If you don’t happen to see it on the menu the day you dine at Le Cellier, don’t be afraid to ask your server if the culinary team might be able to make it.
