Recipe: Spaghetti tacos

A few months ago I posted about the new phenomenon of spaghetti tacos that started because of the Nickelodeon show “iCarly.”

I decided to test out this recipe and update it for adult tastes. Here is my recipe:

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Italian turkey sausage
  • 1 pound spaghetti noodles (I used whole wheat angel hair pasta but feel free to use your favorite)
  • 1 jar of your favorite tomato/pasta sauce
  • 8 soft taco-size tortillas
  • Margarine or butter
  • Garlic bread seasoning
  • Basil (for garnish)
  • Fresh mozzarella balls (for garnish)
  • Parmesan cheese (for garnish)

El Beso construction photoGreenfield NOW is reporting on the opening of the much anticipated El Beso in Greenfield at the former home of Champps.

The new El Beso restaurant, the Mexican restaurant under construction at the former Champps Americana site, is on track to open around Valentine’s Day, according to a representative of the owner.

Prez stops at Rick Bayless restaurant in Chicago

I have this huge fascination with Rick Bayless. I LOVE LOVE LOVE his PBS show “Mexico: One Plate At A Time.” I haven’t yet had the chance to dine at his Chicago restaurants Frontera Grill or Topolobampo, so I do the next best thing. I follow him on Twitter.

And Saturday night, he had the biggest diner of all come to Topolo. President Obama and the Secret Service stopped at the Clark Street restaurant for a bite to eat. They even stopped for photos with the kitchen staff.

So what did the Commander-in-Chief order? Lobster and scallops in a roasted tomatillo-corn sauce with sweet corn tamales.

According to a Tweet from Bayless:

When the President arrived, they closed off our block on Clark Street. I counted 13 vehicles filling the 3 lanes.

Jose’s Blue Sombrero Fireball Burrito Challenge

Make it a burrito stuffed with chicken, Habanero and Serrano pepper salsa, red enchilada sauce, pico de gallo, a fire-grilled tortilla and topped with three Habanero rings, and that 15 minutes quite possibly could turn into an eternity.JBS MenuAt Jose’s Blue Sombrero in Brookfield, we decided to see just how hard it is to complete their Fireball Burrito Challenge. So we put our friend Chris to the test.

Construction update: El Beso Mexican Restaurante

Updated 11/3/10: Greenfield NOW reports on opening of El Beso for February 2011.

We were out ‘n about yesterday near Southridge so I took some shots of the progress of El Beso, the new Mexican restaurant that has taken over the spot once filled by Champps in Greenfield.

There isn’t a whole lot of obvious changes on the outside, but ladders, construction equipment and particle board are in plain view. Still no official website has been made live for El Beso, which means “The Kiss,” and is owned by the same group that owns El Fuego on Milwaukee’s southside.
